Ukraine’s Migration Challenge Won’t End With a Peace Deal

In a commentary for The Hill, opinion contributor Kateryna Odarchenko argues that the end of the fighting will not by itself bring Ukraine’s millions of displaced citizens back home.
For many families now living abroad, she writes, the question after a peace deal will be less about love of country or homesickness than a practical one: whether returning makes sense for their household. That, in her view, makes Ukraine’s population loss a challenge that will outlast the war itself.
