AI Risk Shouldn’t Be a Red-vs-Blue Fight

As artificial intelligence policy becomes a bigger part of the political conversation, there’s a growing risk that basic questions about AI safety get sorted into the same partisan camps as everything else in Washington. That would be a mistake: concerns about AI systems failing in dangerous ways, being misused, or concentrating power don’t map neatly onto traditional left-right divides.
Lawmakers on both sides have found common ground on narrow AI issues before, from child safety to fraud, suggesting bipartisan cooperation is possible when the debate stays focused on concrete harms rather than culture-war framing. The challenge going forward will be keeping AI safety debates anchored in technical reality rather than letting them collapse into the same tribal alignments that dominate other policy fights.
